Navigating Postpartum with Confidence

The baby has arrived, but your own recovery and transition are just beginning. The fourth trimester can be a beautiful, exhausting and sometimes overwhelming time as new parents adjust to life with a newborn while their bodies, emotions and identities are changing, too.

In this episode of Meaningful Medicine with Novant Health, certified nurse midwife Sharon Varner shares what new parents should know about those first weeks and months after birth. We’ll talk about physical recovery, feeding and sleep, emotional changes, postpartum warning signs and the importance of asking for help. Sharon also shares why postpartum care is about much more than checking on the baby. It’s about making sure the person who gave birth is supported, heard and cared for, too.

Whether you’re preparing for your first baby or navigating the fourth trimester again, this conversation offers practical guidance, reassurance and a reminder that you don’t have to figure it all out alone.
